What graduates say

Jason Heki

Jason Heki

Development Director, ParentalRights.org

"LI's fundraising schools have been an invaluable asset to me and our development department at ParentalRights.org. Much of our growth last year was a result of the specialized training and resources offered by LI."

Kevin Hoeft

Kevin Hoeft

Director of Development & Public Policy, Home Educators Association of Virginia

"Our organization has just started a Development program, and I am the first Development Director. Leadership Institute has provided me with invaluable information on how to build sincere, long-term relationships with potential major donors.  On establishing a major donor program and with key details on how to identify, communicate with and enlist high dollar donors. I learned much from the expert instructors, and the meals, fellowship and accommodations provided by LI were exceptional."

Paige Scarlett

Paige Scarlett

Development Director, ProLife Action League

"At LI's [fundraising training], I learned not only the importance of prospecting to find new donors, how to cultivate these donors and how to appeal to and engage your current donors, but how to do so effectively, with the biggest chance of success."

Steven Sutton

Vice President for Development, The Leadership Institute

Steven joined the Leadership Institute fourteen years ago as Vice President of Programs. As Vice President of Programs, he directed all LI's training programs, from political grassroots to student groups on college campuses. He is currently LI's Vice President of Development, where he has increased revenue from $8 million per year (2010) to $25 million (2020).

Prior to joining the Leadership Institute, Steven was a Chief of Staff in the House of Representatives for more than 14 years. He became a start-up specialist, as he set-up the Congressional offices of four different incoming freshmen Congressmen. First was Peter Torkilson of the North Shore of Massachusetts. Then came Frank Riggs from California's Napa Valley. Third was Lee Terry from Omaha, Nebraska, and most recently John Kline from just south of Minnesota's Twin Cities.

As Chief of Staff, Steven set-up their offices, hired their staffs, and managed and directed the operations of their Washington and district offices. In addition, he helped them get re-elected, directing their campaign strategies, messages, and voter contact programs.

He has managed numerous political campaigns from city council to U.S. Congress, specializing in challenger campaigns.

Steven is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
